Doha, Qatar - The Knowledge Transfer Partnerships Qatar (KTP-Q) is a strategic initiative by the Qatar Research, Development, and Innovation (QRDI) Council. It aims to promote innovation and economic growth by connecting Qatari-registered businesses with local knowledge institutions, such as universities and research institutes. Additionally, these collaborations help address business challenges through applied research and development projects.

KTP Program Overview

KTP-Q facilitates two primary types of collaborations:

  • Classic KTP-Q: Focuses on developing new or enhanced products and services.
  • Management KTP-Q: Aims to improve business processes and build management capabilities.

Moreover, each project is led by an 'Associate'—a graduate employed by the knowledge institution—who works within the business to implement the project. The QRDI Council provides funding of up to QAR 500,000 per year, which is co-funded by the participating business. Additionally, project durations range from 12 to 36 months.

KTP Eligibility Criteria

To participate in KTP-Q, the following entities must collaborate:

  • Business Partner: A Qatar-registered company with at least three full-time equivalent employees, demonstrating a strategic growth plan and the ability to co-fund the project.
  • Knowledge Institution: A recognized university or research institute in Qatar capable of providing the necessary expertise and resources.
  • Associate: A suitably qualified graduate employed by the knowledge institution to lead the project within the business.

The project must address a specific business need, present a clear market opportunity, and outline how the knowledge gained will be embedded within the business.

Application Process

Applications are submitted by the knowledge institution in partnership with the business partner through the QRDI Portal. The QRDI Council provides guidance throughout the application and project implementation phases.

Recent Developments

In February 2025, the QRDI Council concluded a three-day training session under the Mumaken IP and Technology Transfer program. The session focused on 'Transacting Knowledge Transfer Agreements.' This training aimed to enhance the skills of technology transfer professionals in negotiating and managing knowledge transfer agreements. These agreements are crucial for bridging the gap between academia and industry.

KTP-Q represents a significant opportunity for Qatari businesses seeking to innovate and expand their capabilities by leveraging academic expertise. By promoting collaborations between the private sector and knowledge institutions, the program contributes to the realization of Qatar's National Vision 2030. This vision aims to diversify the economy and build a knowledge-based society.
