Doha, Qatar – Builders VC, a prominent early-stage venture capital firm renowned for investing in companies transforming traditional industries, has announced the opening of its new office in Doha, Qatar. This strategic expansion marks the firm's first presence in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region and is established in partnership with the Qatar Investment Authority (QIA), Qatar's sovereign wealth fund.
The collaboration between Builders VC and QIA underscores a mutual commitment to supporting entrepreneurs and advancing technologies that align with Builders VC's mission to modernize critical sectors, including healthcare, agriculture, real estate, and industrial systems. This partnership aims to leverage QIA's regional expertise and resources alongside Builders VC's operational acumen and sector-focused investment approach.
The selection of Doha as Builders VC's regional headquarters reflects Qatar's dedication to promoting a world-class technology hub. The new office is envisioned as a collaborative platform for high-potential startups, local entrepreneurs, and forward-thinking corporations. This initiative aligns with Qatar's National Vision 2030, which emphasizes the development of a knowledge-based economy and a sustainable, diversified technology ecosystem.
Leading the Doha office is Tarik Sultan, Partner and Head of the MENA Region. Sultan brings extensive experience in venture capital and ecosystem development, with a deep understanding of MENA's growing significance in sectors such as software, artificial intelligence, cleantech, and healthcare. Builders VC plans to expand its presence in Doha by growing its team and engaging continuously with local innovators.
In 2024, QIA launched its first Fund of Funds venture capital program, focusing primarily on technology and healthcare sectors. This initiative aims to promote economic diversification, support local development, and introduce global best practices to Qatar. The partnership with Builders VC is a strategic move to accelerate these objectives, fostering innovation and entrepreneurship within the region.
The establishment of Builders VC's Doha office, in partnership with QIA, signifies a significant step towards enhancing Qatar's position as a regional technology and innovation hub. This collaboration is poised to drive the growth of a diversified, knowledge-based economy, contributing to the broader goals outlined in Qatar's National Vision 2030.
