Doha, Qatar - Qatar Research, Development and Innovation (QRDI) Council has entered into a collaboration with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) to strengthen intellectual property (IP) management among Qatari small and medium enterprises (SMEs). The initiative positions IP as a key driver for business growth, investment, and international competitiveness in line with Qatar’s economic diversification goals.
The partnership was officially unveiled through the “WIPO IP Management Clinics for Qatari SMEs – Introductory Webinar,” which introduced the five core dimensions of Smart IP Management. Topics included branding strategy and an overview of the WIPO Madrid System for trademark registration. Participants also received a preview of the hands-on, one-on-one IP diagnostics and expert guidance that will form the core of the upcoming clinics.
Beginning in September 2025, the National IP Management Clinics will offer a four-month programme tailored to each SME’s needs. Key services encompass:
Applications are now being accepted through official QRDI and MoCI channels. Selected enterprises will engage in expert-led sessions designed to map out IP portfolios, identify protection gaps, and plan strategic exploitation of intangible assets. The programme aims to onboard a cohort of Qatari startups and established SMEs ready to leverage IP for market expansion and investor engagement.
By aligning with international best practices and standards, the initiative seeks to integrate IP management into everyday business planning across Qatar’s entrepreneurial ecosystem. The programme is expected to generate new funding avenues, enhance global market access, and support Qatar’s transition towards a knowledge-based economy driven by innovation and creativity.
